I had the most fantastic lunch at Tacos El Gordo in Beloit, right by AutoZone on 4th St. Let me tell you about the trio of tacos that rocked my taste buds – steak, chicken, and chorizo. These were hands down some of the best tacos I've had in a long while. The flavors were out of this world. What stood out to me was the attention to detail in the preparation – the soft taco shells had this perfect crunch from being toasted just right. Each bite was a flavor explosion, but if I had to pick a favorite, the steak taco stole the show. The tenderness and rich flavor were next level. Xavier has been a High Honor Roll student all four years at Beloit Memorial receiving awards for Outstanding Academic Achievement along with maintaining a cumulative GPA of 4.00. He has received the Superintendent Scholars Award, along with Department Awards in Math, Social Studies, Business, and Music. Xavier is a member of the BMHS National Honor Society. While at BMHS, Xavier has been a member of the Student Senate, Leo’s Club, Knights Ambassadors, Science Explorers Club, Art Club, and the BMHS Chamber Orchestra. He has participated in the Academic Decathlon earning achievement letters in 2021 and 2022. Outside of BMHS, Xavier is involved with a Robotics Team, Turtle Tek, Innovation Club, First Lego League, Boy Scouts, and many other CareerTek events and academies. The patterns on each mask represent the religion, culture, geography and trade of the ancient African empires and kingdoms. I love going to Zen Sushi in Beloit for lunch, and there's a good reason why. They have a fantastic lunch special that won't hurt your wallet. Plus, the people who work there are always super nice.Whenever I go to Zen Sushi, the staff is really friendly. They make you feel welcome, and that's important to me. The crisp fall air was filled with anticipation as I ventured into the heart of Winnebago County for an exclusive tour of the Northern Illinois Fear Fest. Little did I know that this experience would be more than just a behind-the-scenes look at a haunted attraction; it would be a journey into the history and haunts of the Midwest, guided by the warm and welcoming Verda.As I arrived at the Fear Fest, I was immediately struck by the hospitality of its owner, Verda. She exuded Midwest charm and made me feel right at home.Verda began the tour by sharing the intriguing history of the barn, the oldest standing building in Winnebago County, still boasting its original wood. She wasted no time in revealing that this historic building was reputed to be haunted, setting the stage for a spine-tingling adventure.Our tour commenced with a visit to the haunted house. What stood out to me immediately was the accessibility for all. Verda's dedication to ensuring everyone can enjoy Fear Fest was evident, and it added a heartwarming touch.Inside, I was greeted by lifelike wax figures of horror icons like Jason, Freddy Krueger, Chucky, and Frankenstein. But what truly got my heart racing was the mechanical jump scares that seemed to appear out of nowhere, even with the lights on! Also, the 3D room was a great experience and was super creepy. The haunted house delivered a terrifyingly interactive experience that had me on edge at every turn.Verda promised that the barn would be even scarier than the house, and she didn't exaggerate. I followed closely behind her, my arms tightly crossed and my eyes scanning every dark corner. The barn's design featured tight turns, pitch-black rooms, more mechanical jump scares, haunted dolls, chainsaws, and a plethora of other hair-raising surprises.As we navigated this labyrinth of terror, I couldn't help but wonder how I would fare when Fear Fest opened in October, shrouded in the ambiance of Halloween. It was an experience that left me eager to return, though I wasn't entirely sure I could brave it in the dark of night.My tour of Northern Illinois Fear Fest was a heart-pounding, adrenaline-fueled adventure. Verda's warm hospitality and dedication to making the attraction accessible to all added a unique layer of charm to the experience. The haunted house and barn proved to be genuinely terrifying, even with the lights on.
