Beloit Library Renovations Set to Elevate Community Access and Growth

Beloit Library Renovations Set to Elevate Community Access and Growth

The Beloit Public Library (BPL) is taking a huge step forward in serving the community, thanks to a remarkable $3.89 million grant from the Flexible Facilities Program (FFP). The announcement, made by Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers' office, promises transformative renovations for more than 30% of the library’s facility, allowing BPL to address some of the community's most pressing post-pandemic needs: workforce development, access to healthcare, high-speed internet, and education. With this grant, Beloit Public Library is not just upgrading its space, but elevating its role within the community. The renovations will include cutting-edge Wi-Fi 7, new classrooms, flexible rooms, health monitoring rooms, computer labs, virtual interview rooms, and even a sensory room designed to offer inclusive spaces for everyone. These changes are set to make a real difference in the way people access resources at the library.A standout feature of this renovation is the introduction of Discovery PLAYce, a brand-new early learning center designed for children ages 0-6 and their caregivers. This interactive space will focus on hands-on activities that encourage brain development and literacy in young children. As BPL Director Nick Dimassis said, "This grant is a game changer. It doesn’t come from planning on paper; it comes from years of listening to the community, forging valuable partnerships, and changing how we provide services to the community." Discovery PLAYce will be a free, enriching space that helps move the needle on early childhood literacy in Beloit, giving children the strong start they need to succeed in school and life. The library’s commitment to the community doesn’t stop with early learning. The upgraded facilities will support workforce development through partnerships with the Department of Workforce Development, offering career services like resume workshops, online interview spaces, and job application assistance. In addition, BPL will expand healthcare access with telehealth rooms that allow residents to meet with healthcare providers virtually, reducing the stress of in-person visits, especially for mental health support. In the words of Beloit City Manager Jerry Gabrielatos, “The library serves our community’s needs far beyond physical materials. This expansion will see increased access to workforce development tools, healthcare monitoring, technology, and early childhood literacy.”What excites me most about these renovations is how they reflect the heart of the community. A city’s library can be a window into its soul, offering a peek into the values and priorities of its residents. The improvements at Beloit Public Library speak volumes about our shared commitment to education, inclusion, and growth. The impact this will have on our city is monumental, ensuring that all residents, regardless of their circumstances, have access to the tools they need to thrive.I believe this is a turning point for Beloit. As our library evolves to meet the changing needs of the community, it’s clear that we’re investing not just in a building, but in the people who make this city great. It’s an honor to see these changes unfold, and I’m thrilled for the positive ripple effects this will have on the entire state of our city. The News Report Used: https://beloitlibrary.org/beloit-public-library-receives-3-89-million-grant/?fbclid=IwY2xjawF1Ek5leHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHY4zd6pJ9qcBL0R2Uvi2gn8a_hFcunEvdMpMd_Y0QAsjWNFzWKGC9d7J0g_aem_6PtsQLpE485J7VNN4PoV1g

Celebrate Beloit’s History: Free Premiere Screening of PBS Documentary

Celebrate Beloit’s History: Free Premiere Screening of PBS Documentary

Hey Stateline community! I have some exciting news to share about an upcoming event that celebrates the rich history and incredible spirit of Beloit. PBS Wisconsin is releasing a brand-new documentary, Wisconsin Hometown Stories: Beloit, and there’s a special opportunity for you to be among the first to see it!Mark your calendars for Thursday, Oct. 17! There will be a FREE community screening of the documentary at the Eclipse Event Center here in Beloit at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., and trust me, you’ll want to get there early to grab a seat because seating is limited. Plus, you can enjoy live music from the amazing Beloit Memorial High School Jazz Combo before the screening starts. This documentary is such a wonderful celebration of our city’s legacy of industry, innovation, education, and community pride. You’ll get to see some incredible footage, historic images, and hear from the very people who have helped shape Beloit into the city we all love today. One of the best parts? The film’s producers, Kyra Lyons and Holly De Ruyter, will be there in person! They’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes insights and answering your questions in a Q&A session. Hearing from them directly about how this project came together, and the role the Beloit community played in its creation, will be such a treat.I love that this documentary truly captures the resilience and transformation of our city, from its beginnings as a center of trade for the Ho-Chunk Nation to becoming a vibrant hub of industry and education. It’s inspiring to see how Beloit has continually adapted and thrived through the generations. If you can’t make it to the premiere screening, don’t worry! Wisconsin Hometown Stories: Beloit will air statewide on PBS Wisconsin at 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, and it will also be available to stream on the PBS app or pbswisconsin.org.Come out, celebrate Beloit, and let’s show up for this incredible moment in our local history! See you there!
