A restored 1868 grist mill, located in Rock, Co Wisconsin. Open 1-4pm Saturday and Sunday, May through October.Beckman Mill is located at Beckman Mill County Park,  6 miles west of Beloit, Wisconsin. On the grounds of the 50-acre county park you will see an authentically restored 1868 grist mill, a new dam, mill pond,fish ladder, foot bridge, saw mill display, 1840s cooperage, visitor center, gift shop, creamery, blacksmith shop, picnic shelter, vintage garden, nature trail and more.The showpiece of the park is the Beckman Mill, the restoration of which was completed in 1997 by the Friends of Beckman Mill’s volunteer work crew. It is operational with power being supplied by its original 1860s water driven Leffel turbine. In the event alternate power is needed, the mill can be operated by its vintage two-cylinder gasoline engine.The mill was built shortly after the Civil War by millwright William Howe of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. In 1882 it was acquired by August Beckmann who had previously operated mills in nearby Juda and Hanover. The mill was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

Mission StatementTalcott Free Library is a strong community partner that provides a friendly, safe space for generations, young and old, to strengthen their knowledge and enrich their lives. Library HistoryIn 1875, a Public Library Association was organized in Rockton of which each person had to pay to use the collection.  13 years later, in June of 1888, the Honorable Wait A. Talcott donated a building to Rockton Township to be used as a library, providing the town would organize under the laws of Illinois and vote to establish a tax to support the library. The original building was constructed in 1854 as a feed and grain store; Wait’s son William paid for the repair of the building to become a library, including a new roof, his brother Thomas donated a nucleus of books, and W. W. Austin installed electric lights. Talcott Free Library was dedicated on August 22, 188,9, and named such because the public no longer had to pay to use the collection. Welcome to Macktown, a place where history comes to life.Who we are…An Introduction to Macktown Living History:The buildings at Macktown Living History include the 1846 Whitman's Trading Post, the 1839 Stephen Mack residence, and the rebuilt Stevens shop, which housed the first schoolhouse in Winnebago County, plus the modern Macktown Living History Education Center. Macktown Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It contains remnants of historic and prehistoric cultures dating back thousands of years. Your support is critical to maintaining this culturally significant site. The buildings are open to the public during our monthly special events and open to visitors, schools, and groups at other times by appointment. The grounds are open to enjoy during regular Macktown Forest Preserve hours.

A restored 1868 grist mill, located in Rock, Co Wisconsin. Open 1-4pm Saturday and Sunday, May through October.Beckman Mill is located at Beckman Mill County Park,  6 miles west of Beloit, Wisconsin. On the grounds of the 50-acre county park you will see an authentically restored 1868 grist mill, a new dam, mill pond,fish ladder, foot bridge, saw mill display, 1840s cooperage, visitor center, gift shop, creamery, blacksmith shop, picnic shelter, vintage garden, nature trail and more.The showpiece of the park is the Beckman Mill, the restoration of which was completed in 1997 by the Friends of Beckman Mill’s volunteer work crew. It is operational with power being supplied by its original 1860s water driven Leffel turbine. In the event alternate power is needed, the mill can be operated by its vintage two-cylinder gasoline engine.The mill was built shortly after the Civil War by millwright William Howe of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. In 1882 it was acquired by August Beckmann who had previously operated mills in nearby Juda and Hanover. The mill was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
