There’s something special about this time of year. The school year is wrapping up, caps and gowns are getting zipped up, and our local athletes are giving us plenty to cheer about. Hononegah High School has had an incredible run this week, and I just wanted to take a moment to highlight all the amazing things happening in our community.

Let’s start with Hononegah Athletics. The baseball team pulled off an unforgettable win over Harlem, scoring three runs in the bottom of the 7th. That clutch performance earned them a shot at the Regional Championship against Hampshire this Saturday. Big things are happening on the diamond.

Meanwhile, junior tennis player Braden Monson made serious waves at the State Tennis Tournament, going 3-1 on the day and landing in the top 24 in the state. He’s back in action tomorrow morning, and we’ll all be rooting for him.

Softball is right in the middle of a postseason run, too, getting ready to take on DeKalb for a Regional Championship at Stromquist Field. And boys' track is headed to the IHSA State Meet, where they’ll be looking to bring home some All-State honors. These athletes are putting in the work and making our whole community proud.

Aand let’s not forget our boys volleyball team, who are Regional Champs and now gearing up for the Sectional Semi-Final at South Elgin. The teamwork, dedication, and energy these student-athletes bring are something that deserves to be celebrated.

Speaking of celebrating, huge congratulations to the Hononegah Class of 2025! It’s no small thing to make it through four years of high school, especially with everything these past few years have thrown your way. You’ve shown grit, heart, and determination, and now it’s your time to shine.

Whether you’re heading off to college, jumping into the workforce, taking a gap year, or still figuring it all out, you’ve earned this moment. Soak it in.

To all the athletes, students, coaches, teachers, and families who make up the Hononegah community, thank you for showing what school pride really looks like. This week has been a reminder of how lucky we are to be part of something so strong and so connected.
