The Beloit Historical Society welcomed its 2025 Hall of Fame class during a heartfelt ceremony at the Lincoln Center Museum on Sunday, recognizing community members whose work has helped shape Beloit into the thriving city it is today.Each inductee—Joseph and Dawn Stadelman, Ann Sitrick Joyce, James Packard Sr., and Kevin Leavy—has left an unmistakable mark on the city through their leadership, service, and dedication to progress.The Hall of Fame, which began in 1936, celebrates those who have helped build the heart and spirit of Beloit. This year’s honorees represent a wide range of fields, from architecture and education to business and civic leadership, all united by a common thread—a deep love for their community.Joseph and Dawn Stadelman have both played key roles in Beloit’s growth since moving to the city in 1998. Joseph, president and principal architect at Angus-Young Associates, has contributed to some of the area’s most notable projects, including the Beloit College Powerhouse, local fire stations, and the Stateline Boys and Girls Club. Dawn has blended creativity and community through her work in museums, education, and fundraising efforts, including her current role at the Wright Museum of Art and involvement in developing new spaces for families and children at the Beloit Public Library.The late Ann Sitrick Joyce, remembered fondly by many, built a legacy of advocacy and care through her years in education and nonprofit leadership. From her work in the School District of Beloit to her time leading the Beloit Memorial Hospital Foundation, Joyce was known for bringing people together and improving access to local resources. Her leadership extended into numerous boards and organizations, including the Beloit International Film Festival and Rotary Club of Beloit, where she made history as its first woman president.James Packard Sr. is another name long associated with Beloit’s progress. A business leader and community advocate, Packard’s tenure at Regal-Beloit helped drive the company’s incredible growth and contributed to revitalizing the downtown area. Beyond business, his ongoing philanthropy and vision have strengthened local health initiatives and educational opportunities.Rounding out this year’s class is Kevin Leavy, a lifelong Beloit resident whose public service has broken barriers and inspired generations. As the first African American to serve as chairman of the Rock County Board and the Blackhawk Technical College Board, Leavy’s career is filled with historic firsts. What started as a fun typo — a text about opening a “dive bar” that autocorrected to “5BAR” — turned into a full concept built around the five senses, five elements, and five tastes. Each month the menu changes, featuring new, balanced cocktails made with house-made syrups, fresh citrus, and local ingredients whenever possible.The bar’s cozy layout, comfortable lighting, and friendly service make it a staple of the downtown scene. It’s not a loud, crowded place — it’s a spot where you can actually unwind, talk with friends, or catch a local musician performing in the back room.At the center of it all is Levi Andersen, the owner and creative force behind 5BAR. You sign up for the Beloit and Beyond Historical Walking Trail right from your phone. Once you have the digital pass, it shows you more than 90 historical sites across Beloit, South Beloit, and Rockton. You pick where to go, no set route, no pressure. Last Beloit Farmers Market of the Season Wraps Up with Halloween Fun

Downtown Beloit was packed this past Saturday for the final Beloit Farmers Market of 2025, and it couldn’t have ended in a better way. With Halloween just days away, families filled the streets, kids showed off their costumes, and vendors brought the energy with treats, music, and plenty of fall flavors.Every corner of the market had something festive to see. From little superheroes and princesses running between booths to vendors dressed up and handing out goodies, it was a fun, family-friendly way to close out another great season. I even grabbed a pumpkin they were giving out, one for each of my daughters, and it made for the perfect way to wrap up a chilly but cheerful fall morning.The atmosphere was lively, with local musicians keeping the crowd entertained and the familiar smell of fresh food floating through downtown. Many vendors shared how much they appreciate the community’s continued support all season long, and they’re already looking forward to being part of the indoor market that kicks off next.Just because the outdoor market season has come to an end doesn’t mean the fun stops there. The Winter Farmers Market begins this Saturday at 9 a.m. inside the Downtown Beloit Association building, located at 557 East Grand Avenue. It runs every Saturday through April from 9 a.m. to noon.The indoor market keeps the spirit of the summer season alive. You’ll still find many of the same local vendors offering fresh produce, baked goods, handmade crafts, and more. For owner and baker Kate Sauberlich, the journey to this moment has been years in the making — one filled with passion, patience, and plenty of frosting.Baking started as a happy escape for Kate while she was working as a police dispatcher.
