Why is the Month of February Black History Month?

February was chosen to be the month for Black History Month for several reasons. One of the primary reasons is that it coincides with the birthdays of two significant figures in black history: Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. Douglass, a former slave who became a prominent abolitionist and civil rights leader, was born on February 14, 1818.
