Featured Places

I wanted to share something super exciting that's coming up. On October 21st at 8 p.m., PBS Wisconsin is airing a new episode of their Wisconsin Hometown Stories series and this time, it’s all about Beloit!

This series is awesome because it digs into the history of different towns across Wisconsin, and Beloit is the latest one to get the spotlight. From its early days as a trade hub for the Ho-Chunk Nation to its growth through New England agriculture and industry, Beloit has such a rich history.

What’s really cool is how the show highlights the diverse communities that call Beloit home and how the city's been revitalized thanks to the pride and hard work of its residents. Whether you’re watching it live or streaming it later on the PBS app, it’s definitely worth checking out. Don’t miss it!

When more details come in, I'll let you know!

Breakfast Done Right at Nora’s Place in South Beloit

Breakfast Done Right at Nora’s Place in South Beloit

There’s just something about a good skillet that hits different in the morning—and Nora’s Place in South Beloit delivered exactly what I didn’t know I needed today.I ordered the chorizo skillet, which came loaded with perfectly grilled hash browns, red and green peppers, and a couple of eggs on top—just the way I like it. I added a little hot sauce on the side, and that kicked it up just enough. The peppers had that beautiful grilled flavor, not soggy or overdone—just right. I've been trying to eat healthier lately, and this was one of those rare meals that felt indulgent and clean. It was satisfying but didn’t leave me feeling weighed down. Honestly, I walked out feeling better than when I walked in.If you’ve never been to Nora’s Place, it’s tucked right off Blackhawk Blvd, and it’s one of those diners that immediately makes you feel like you’ve been coming there for years—even if it’s your first time. It’s cozy, casual, and full of friendly faces. The service is quick, the coffee is strong (and worth a mention), and there’s that laid-back hometown vibe that just makes the food taste better.Nora’s has been a staple in the community for a while now, known for hearty American breakfasts, comforting lunches, and generous portions. Beyond the skillet, they’ve got everything from fluffy pancakes and French toast to thick Angus burgers and steak sandwiches. There’s even a fun kid’s menu if you’re bringing the family. So if you’re looking for a solid breakfast spot that feels like home and leaves you full in the best way, Nora’s Place should be on your list.

Finding Magic in Downtown Beloit: Nine Bells & Cat Tails

Finding Magic in Downtown Beloit: Nine Bells & Cat Tails

Every time I step into Nine Bells & Cat Tails, I’m reminded why I do what I do.Owned by Karen Koyama, Nine Bells & Cat Tails isn’t just a metaphysical shop—it’s a sanctuary for the soul. Karen’s “why” runs deep. As a veteran, a woman, and a spiritual healer with roots in Nichiren Buddhism, she created this space to help others reconnect with themselves, with their purpose, and with the energy around them. Her journey as a psychic medium for over 14 years is reflected in every shelf, every handmade incense stick, every crystal that seems to hum with its own story. But it’s more than just crystals and candles. Karen offers a wide range of services that invite people to explore their own intuition and personal growth. From tarot readings (just $1 a minute!) to henna tattoos, to psychic development classes and special events like Crystal Ball Fridays with Johnathan Woods—Nine Bells is all about connection. Whether you're just getting curious about metaphysics or have been on a spiritual path for years, something is grounding and inspiring about this space.Karen also pours her heart into the community through music. With the Dolce Music Academy (right in the same building), she teaches piano, drums, strings, and more, alongside a team of musicians who also instruct at Beloit College and local schools. It’s a rare blend of healing, creativity, and education all under one roof.I also want to take a moment to say thank you to Karen and Nine Bells & Cat Tails for being a proud sponsor of Stateline Buzz. Their support means the world to me—and honestly, this positivity movement, the free articles, videos, and features that I share with the community wouldn’t be possible without partners like them. Businesses like Nine Bells are the heartbeat of the Stateline, and I’m grateful to have them in our corner. So if you haven’t yet, stop in and see the magic for yourself. You might just walk out with more than you came in for—a little more peace, clarity, or maybe even purpose.

Beloit College Class of 2025: Honoring Tradition, Embracing the Future

Beloit College Class of 2025: Honoring Tradition, Embracing the Future

Over the weekend, Beloit College celebrated a significant milestone as the Class of 2025 crossed the stage, marking the culmination of years of dedication and growth. The commencement ceremony, set against the backdrop of the college's historic campus, was a testament to the resilience and achievements of its graduates. Family, friends, and faculty gathered to honor the students' journeys and the bright futures that lie ahead.Beloit College, established in 1846, holds the distinction of being Wisconsin's oldest continuously operated college. Founded by a group of New England pioneers known as the "Friends for Education," the institution was envisioned as a beacon of learning in the then-Wisconsin Territory. The first building, Middle College, was constructed in 1847 and remains a central fixture on campus today. Throughout its history, Beloit College has been at the forefront of progressive education. In 1895, it became coeducational, and in 1904, Grace Ousley became the first African-American woman to graduate from the college. The college's commitment to inclusivity and academic excellence has been a defining characteristic since its inception.Academically, Beloit is renowned for its strong programs in anthropology, geology, and international education. The college's geology department, for instance, has a rich legacy dating back to the 19th century and continues to offer students hands-on field experiences. Additionally, the Logan Museum of Anthropology and the Wright Museum of Art, both located on campus, provide students and visitors with access to extensive collections that support interdisciplinary learning. The campus itself is steeped in history and natural beauty. Situated within the Near East Side Historic District, it features 20 Native American mounds, including a turtle effigy that has become an unofficial symbol of the college. These mounds, built between 400 and 1200 A.D., serve as a poignant reminder of the region's rich indigenous heritage. As the Class of 2025 embarks on their next chapters, they carry forward the legacy of a college deeply rooted in tradition yet continually evolving. Beloit College's enduring commitment to fostering critical thinking, cultural understanding, and community engagement ensures that its graduates are well-equipped to make meaningful contributions to the world.Congratulations to the newest alumni—your journey is just beginning, and the future holds endless possibilities.

Why Even Non-Baseball Fans Should Catch a Beloit Sky Carp Game

I’ll be honest: I don’t follow baseball. I couldn’t tell you who’s leading the league or what a WHIP is. But after attending a Beloit Sky Carp game, I can confidently say that you don’t need to be a baseball fanatic to have an absolute blast at ABC Supply Stadium. The Beloit Sky Carp, formerly known as the Beloit Snappers, have been a staple in minor league baseball since 1982. Originally affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers, the team underwent several changes over the years, including affiliations with the Minnesota Twins and Oakland Athletics, before partnering with the Miami Marlins in 2021. In 2022, embracing a fresh identity, they rebranded as the Sky Carp—a nod to geese that choose not to migrate, symbolizing the team's commitment to staying rooted in Beloit .ABC Supply Stadium, the team's home since 2021, is a game-changer. Built with the community in mind, it offers a 360-degree concourse, comfortable seating, and a design that pays homage to Beloit's industrial heritage . It's not just a place to watch baseball; it's a venue that enhances the entire experienceOne of the standout features is Poopsie’s Play Zone—a dedicated area where kids can enjoy games and activities while adults soak in the game. Watching the kids race Poopsie, the team's mascot, at the end of the game is a delight—full of laughter, cheers, and the kind of moments that make lasting memories. The Sky Carp know how to keep things exciting. From post-game fireworks to themed nights and special promotions, there's always something happening. Joyful Learning and Earth Day Fun at the Beloit Public Library 🌍📚

Joyful Learning and Earth Day Fun at the Beloit Public Library 🌍📚

Here’s something beautiful happening in Beloit for Earth Day that I wanted to share—because it’s more than just an event, it’s a celebration of learning, community, and the planet we all call home.On Saturday, April 26th, from 1 to 2pm, the Beloit Public Library is hosting a special Earth Day Celebration & Community Festival. It’s part of a bigger movement called Badgerland Learning Days, which brings together organizations from all over Rock County to create hands-on, joyful learning experiences for families. This isn’t just your average Earth Day event. It's a drop-in style afternoon filled with creativity, discovery, and connection. Families can explore interactive booths, meet local organizations doing good work, and get a taste of everything from gardening and science to art, storytelling, and even cuddles from therapy dogs. And just before the festival officially kicks off, from 12 to 1:30pm, complimentary food will be served—thanks to the generous support of Dwelling Angels. What I love most about this event is how it blends fun with purpose. It reminds us that learning doesn’t have to feel like school—it can be music, crafts, nature walks, or simply hearing a story about why the Earth matters. And when communities come together like this to create space for kids and families to explore, ask questions, and get inspired, that’s something worth celebrating. If you're free that day, it's absolutely worth stopping by—even just for a little bit. It's free, it’s local, and it’s full of heart. And if you’re curious about other events happening this week as part of Badgerland Learning Days, there are over 120 free and low-cost opportunities across the region. You can check out the full lineup at www.remakelearningdays.org/badgerland.Hope to see some of you out enjoying the sunshine and all the creative ways our community is coming together to celebrate Earth Day this year. 💚🌎
