Free Notary Services are Available at the Library
BELOIT, WI – Beloit Public Library is pleased to announce the expansion of its services to include notary public services at no cost.
This new service is available during regular hours the library is open, up until 30 minutes before closing, and is based on the availability of certified notary publics on staff. Seven staff members are currently certified notaries, including two who are bilingual in English and Spanish.
The service provided is on a first-come, first-served basis and only to individuals; it is not available for businesses or organizations. A library card is not required.
This service is not available for all documents. Documents that require technical or legal knowledge are beyond the scope of this simple, free service and cannot be notarized. Library notaries reserve the right to decline service if the documents, identification, or other circumstances of the request for notary service raise any issue of authenticity, ambiguity, or doubt.
Legal documents must be in a language that the certified notary public can read and speak. The Library will make every effort to have both English and Spanish-certified notary publics, but the availability for Spanish reading/speaking notary publics may be limited. Documents must also contain a notarial certificate and, a pre-printed statement for the notary to fill in.
Please keep in mind:
· DO NOT sign your document in advance. All documents need to be signed in the presence of a notary. The document should be filled out before meeting with the notary, leaving no blanks other than a signature and notary statement.
· Every notarized signature must have the signer present.
· Government-issued photo identification must be provided at the time of service.
· If the document must be witnessed, you will be required to provide your witnesses.
Some documents (e.g. passports, birth, death, or marriage certificates, and I-9 forms) cannot be notarized at the library.
· You must bring the complete document.
