This place is the definition of a family-run success story — professional, welcoming, and packed with top-notch services. Recently, I had the chance to visit their new location, and trust me, you’ll want to check it out too.

The Dynamic Duo Behind Iconiq

Iconiq is owned by husband-and-wife team Jesus and Tatiana, and they’re not just skilled at what they do — they’re also incredibly friendly and passionate about serving their clients. Their journey is truly inspiring: they started small, working out of an at-home studio, and grew a huge client base thanks to their talent and dedication.

Fast forward to today, and they’ve created a professional and inviting space that reflects years of hard work. Now, their barbershop and salon combo is bustling, offering services for everyone in the family.

The Barbershop: Traditional Meets Trendy

Jesus heads up the barbershop side, and it’s clear he’s mastered the craft with over 15 years of experience. Whether you’re looking for a fresh fade, a classic cut, beard grooming, or a luxurious hot towel facial, you’re in great hands. The barbershop strikes the perfect balance of traditional services and modern techniques, making it a go-to for men of all ages.

The Salon: Where Beauty Shines

On the salon side, Tatiana works her magic. Specializing in lash extensions and lifts, she brings incredible detail and care to every appointment. But her expertise doesn’t stop there — the salon offers everything from facials and waxing to haircuts, coloring, and extensions.

The best part? The team at Iconiq is always expanding, meaning there’s no shortage of skilled stylists to meet your needs.

One thing that really stood out to me during my visit was how family-friendly and inclusive Iconiq is. It’s truly an all-in-one shop where the whole family can get services tailored to their needs. With walk-ins welcome and affordable prices, this shop makes high-quality care accessible for everyone.

Why You Should Visit

Beyond the services, what really sets Iconiq apart is its vibe. The space is clean and modern, but it’s the positive atmosphere and friendly team that make it special. Jesus and Tatiana have built more than just a barbershop and salon — they’ve created a community space where clients feel valued and welcomed.

So, if you’re in need of a fresh cut, a beauty boost, or just want to support an amazing local business, stop by Iconiq Barbershop & Beauty. Huge congrats to Jesus and Tatiana for creating such a standout spot. This is a must-visit for anyone looking for style, skill, and a great experience.

TJs Gourmet Snacks Foods – A Local Favorite with Big Flavor

TJs Gourmet Snacks Foods – A Local Favorite with Big FlavorFresh, crunchy, and full of flavor. That is what you get every time you open a bag from TJs Gourmet Snacks Foods. This local business is run by Vergil, Mike, and Michelle, and it all started with a conversation and a love for a classic snack. When Vergil first met Mr B, the two talked about his pork snack business, which was being made in the back of Mr B’s restaurant. Years later, when Mr B decided to sell, Vergil jumped at the chance to work with a friend and carry on a business he loved. Even more special, this meant continuing the legacy of a mid 90s Black owned business.TJs Gourmet Snacks Foods makes pork rinds, cracklings, and their own seasoning blend. Everything is produced by hand and sold at local stores and gas stations from Milwaukee to Rockford. One of the most popular places to find them is Woodmans, or you can stop by Mr B’s to get them as fresh as possible.I had the chance to visit their location inside Mr B’s and watch them make pork rinds from scratch for the first time. It was a really cool experience, especially because I have always enjoyed these snacks. Every bite is packed with flavor and they even have smaller bags that are perfect for on the go.Whether you are looking for a fresh local snack to enjoy at home, on the road, or at your next gathering, TJs Gourmet Snacks Foods delivers flavor that keeps you coming back. You can find them in stores, at Mr B’s, or order online for the same great taste shipped right to you.

Breakfast, Community, and Conversation at Mr. B’s in Beloit

There’s something about a good breakfast spot that just sets the tone for your day. And if you’re in Beloit, one place that gets it right is Mr. B’s. Tucked into a cozy corner on Liberty Avenue, this local favorite has been around since the mid-90s, quietly building a loyal following of regulars, out-of-towners, and folks just passing through who were lucky enough to hear about it.I stopped by recently because, honestly, I just love a solid breakfast. I kept it classic—coffee, pancakes, eggs, and turkey bacon, and it hit the spot. The food is everything you want from a breakfast joint: no frills, well-cooked, and super affordable. But Mr. B’s is more than what’s on your plate. It’s the kind of place where you can walk in and immediately feel like you belong. The walls are covered in signed dollar bills and a giant world map that shows just how far people have come to find this little diner. And yes, you can meet Mr. B himself; he’s often there, chatting with customers, checking in, and just being part of the energy that makes this place feel alive. That’s the real charm. People talk here. Strangers say good morning, locals catch up over coffee, and conversations spill from one table to the next. It’s like everyone’s part of the same breakfast club. And if you’ve got room for something sweet, they’ve also got Cedar Crest ice cream and fresh bakery items, making it a great spot to stop by any time before lunch.Mr. B’s may be small, but its impact is big. It’s local, it’s welcoming, and it’s got that timeless diner vibe that’s hard to come by these days. So if you haven’t been, go. If you have, you probably already know what I’m talking about.Let me know if you want to add quotes from Mr. B or feature customer stories in future posts.

The Fire Barn in Durand: Local Flavor, Big Heart, and a Whole Lot of Community Pride

When you walk into The Fire Barn in downtown Durand, you feel it — the energy, the history, and the pride that fuels everything happening here. This isn't just a restaurant. It’s a local comeback story, a neighborhood hangout, and a celebration of small-town spirit.I met with Mike, Sean, and Jolynn, the owners behind the vision, and it’s clear they’re not just running a business — they’re continuing a legacy. Mike especially has deep roots in Durand. He’s always loved the area and dreamed of seeing this location — right next to his Anytime Fitness — thrive. When the opportunity came up to open something new here, he knew he had to be a part of it. The goal? Bring great food, strong drinks, and even better service to a town they care about deeply. The Fire Barn is everything you want in a bar and grill. It's relaxed, welcoming, and packed with personality. You’ll find American comfort food done right — think juicy smash burgers, fresh wraps, signature salads, and wings that hit the spot. Their Barn Burger is the real showstopper. Three smashed patties, grilled onions, and that irresistible barn sauce — it’s bold, flavorful, and just messy enough to remind you it’s the real deal. The drink menu holds its own too. With 8 beers on draft and plenty more to choose from, there’s something for everyone. But I’ve got to give a special shout-out to the spicy watermelon margarita. On a hot summer day, that drink is pure magic — refreshing with just the right kick.Step into the back barn and you’ll find something special. A cozy patio with seating for about 20, but more than that, a space that honors Durand’s past. Photos, jerseys, and memorabilia from local athletes, coaches, and teams line the walls — Pecatonica, DuPec, Durand — it’s all here. There’s a sense of pride in these walls, a reminder of the town’s talent and history. And the owners are still collecting — they’ve put out a call for photos of athletes from the last 30 years, so the legacy keeps growing.Starting July 28, they’re also kicking off their Durand-Ruel Charms Queen of Hearts Jackpot — a chance to win big while giving back to local programs and charities. It’s fun, it’s exciting, and it’s another way The Fire Barn is putting community first.Behind the scenes, you’ve got years of hospitality experience making this place run smoothly. From Eddie and Vic cooking it up in the kitchen to Heather holding it down behind the bar, everyone here is committed to creating a great experience — friendly faces, fast service, and food that keeps you coming back.Whether you’re here for the game (they’ve got over 23 HD screens), the drinks, or just a laid-back dinner with friends, The Fire Barn delivers. It’s more than a restaurant — it’s a gathering place, a tribute to local roots, and a great example of what happens when people invest in their community. You can check out the menu, order online, or plan your visit at thefirebarn.com.Welcome back to The Fire Barn — Durand’s new favorite hangout.

New in Durand: GameStar Arcade is the Local Spot for Big-Time Fun

I had the chance to swing by GameStar Arcade in Durand, and let me just say, this place is a blast. It’s brand new, only two months old, and already it’s creating some serious buzz. If you're looking for a local spot to hang out with family, host a birthday party, or just let loose and have fun like a kid again, GameStar is where it's at.I got to meet Erik, the owner, who’s not only super down to earth but also clearly passionate about what he's created here. His goal was simple: give families a place to stay local and still have a fun, exciting experience without needing to drive far. And he picked the perfect spot. Durand is right in the heart of everything. Honestly, if you're seeing this post, there's a good chance you're no more than 30 minutes away. Now, let’s talk games. This isn’t your typical throwback arcade with old machines from the 80s. Everything here is brand new, with a focus on the kinds of games you see trending online. They've got basketball shooting games, racing simulators, sports challenges, and even a Tiger Woods Golf Simulator that lets you feel like you're teeing off at Augusta. But the real star of the show? The VR 4D Experience.I tried it myself and was completely blown away. I strapped on the headset, got into the motion chair, and suddenly I was in a King Kong movie, dodging helicopters, shaking in my seat, the whole deal. It was immersive, intense, and honestly? One of the most fun things I’ve done in a while. It made me feel like a kid again. If you’ve never tried VR like this before, GameStar is a perfect first experience. What makes this place special is how much more they offer beyond the arcade. There’s a full service bar with a menu that includes appetizers and full meals, perfect if you're coming with a group or just want to chill and hang out. I grabbed a bite after hitting all the games, and the food did not disappoint. They also have slots for adults, a prize center, and yep, I actually won an Xbox while I was there. No joke. The prize center is filled with awesome rewards, from candy and toys to big ticket items that are totally winnable if you put in the time (or get lucky like I did).Outside, there’s a patio space for hanging out on nice days, and they even host live music events on select nights. The vibe here is super friendly and welcoming. Whether you’re a parent looking for a birthday party spot or someone just wanting to unwind with some games and a drink, they’ve got something for you.Oh, and I can't forget about the ice cream. They serve 20 flavors of Cedar Crest Ice Cream, which makes this place a go to spot all on its own, even if you're just in the mood for a cone on a hot day. It's a nice touch that shows how GameStar is thinking about the whole experience. Fun, food, and treats for everyone. This place is only getting started, and I can already tell it’s going to be a big hit in the Stateline area. Erik and his team have built something special. Something that feels fun, fresh, and super local. It’s got that hometown vibe with a big time entertainment feel.If you’re looking for your next night out, a birthday party location, or a place to just relive your favorite arcade moments with a modern twist, head to Durand and check out GameStar Arcade. You can find more info, including party bookings, menus, and event details, on their website: gamestararcade.comStateline Buzz approved. 👊

New Breakfast Spot in Town: Eggsquisite Café Opens in Beloit

There is a new go-to breakfast spot in the Stateline, and it is already earning a lot of buzz.Eggsquisite Café, located at 2042 S Afton Road in the Town of Beloit, is officially open and serving up breakfast favorites with a flavorful twist. I stopped by recently to check it out, and I left full, happy, and excited to come back. This is a family-owned café with a story rooted right here in the community. Ivan Jaimes is the proud owner, and while he is running the show, his entire family has played a role in bringing this dream to life. If Jaime's name sounds familiar, it should. His parents, Margarito and Evelia, have been a part of Beloit’s food scene for nearly a decade. They own Jerry’s Bakery on Fourth Street, and Evelia’s brother owns Jerry’s Café next door. The family also owns Tex’s Grocery on St Lawrence Avenue. Now, with Eggsquisite Café, Ivan is stepping into his chapter, inspired by his father’s years of experience and a shared love for breakfast done right. His dad, Margarito, once worked for Egg Harbor Café, a popular breakfast chain in Illinois, and always dreamed of opening a place like that, but with their family spin. That dream is now a reality. The space has been completely redesigned. It is fresh, modern, and welcoming. You can feel the care they have poured into every detail, from the layout to the kitchen equipment. The menu offers something for everyone. You will find traditional American breakfast favorites like pancakes, omelets, and skillets, along with dishes that bring in bold Mexican flavor. During my visit, I ordered a healthier take on the classics. Eggs over medium, turkey bacon, hashbrowns, and toast. Everything came out hot, fresh, and packed with flavor. And yes, the coffee is on point. Smooth, rich, and a morning must. But here is the moment that stuck with me. The perfect bite. I took a little bit of everything, stacked it all together for one forkful, and let me tell you, that bite summed up the entire vibe of the place. Comforting, satisfying, and made with love.Eggsquisite Café is open daily from 6 AM to 2 PM, making it a great spot whether you are an early riser or rolling in closer to lunchtime. If you are looking for a new place to grab breakfast, catch up with a friend, or just treat yourself to something good, give them a visit.📍 Eggsquisite Café 2042 S Afton Road, Beloit, WI 🕕 Open daily from 6 AM to 2 PM

This place is packed with character, creativity, and a lot of unexpected finds.Best of Beloit Vintage Mall is located at 1019 Gardner Street in South Beloit. It’s a huge building with over 140 vendors inside, each with their own setup and style. The space covers 20,000 square feet, and it feels like every corner you turn leads to something completely different. There’s antique furniture, vintage kitchen tools, old-school signage, books, records, toys, home décor, handmade art, and more. Some vendors focus on rustic or farmhouse designs, while others lean into retro, funky, or modern vintage vibes. One booth might be full of industrial-style shelving and lanterns. The next one might have hand-sewn pillows, framed art, and hand-painted furniture. You never know what you’ll find, and that’s what makes it fun. When I walked in, it honestly felt refreshing. The store is clean and well-organized, but still full of charm. Every vendor puts their personality into their space, which makes walking through feel like a creative adventure.I wasn’t shopping for anything in particular, but I kept stopping to check out old cameras, vintage signs, and repurposed furniture pieces. Celebrating 10 Years of Local Flavor at Lucy’s #7 Burger Bar in Downtown Beloit

If you're looking for a place in downtown Beloit that captures the spirit of Wisconsin in every bite, Lucy’s #7 Burger Bar is it. I recently stopped by to check it out, and let me just say, this place totally lives up to the hype.Lucy’s has been part of the downtown scene for over 10 years now, and it’s not hard to see why people keep coming back. It has that perfect mix of warm hospitality, rustic charm, and a menu that screams Midwest comfort. From the moment you walk in, you feel the energy. It’s lively, inviting, and just has that “I could hang out here for hours” kind of vibe. Now let’s talk food. Lucy’s is known for their smash burgers, and they’re not messing around. I went with the mac and cheese burger, and wow—it was stacked with creamy mac and cheese, crispy bacon, and sharp cheddar, all layered over a perfectly grilled burger. It’s one of those meals where you have to pause after the first bite because it’s just that good. And of course, I had to get a side of cheese curds. This is Wisconsin, after all. Lightly breaded, crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside, and served with ranch—exactly how cheese curds are meant to be.What makes Lucy’s really stand out is their dedication to local flavor. Their entire beer list features craft brews from right here in Wisconsin. I built my own flight of four local beers, and each one had its own unique character. Whether you're into a crisp lager or a bold IPA, they’ve got you covered.Beyond the food and drinks, the space itself is part of the experience. Lucy’s is located inside the historic Hotel Goodwin building, and the blend of vintage charm with modern touches gives it a cozy yet upscale feel. Whether you're grabbing lunch with friends, stopping in before a Beloit Sky Carp game, or just looking for a cool date night spot, Lucy’s is a go-to.After 10 years in business, Lucy’s #7 has become a staple of downtown Beloit. They’ve built something special here: great food, great beer, and a place that genuinely feels like part of the community. Here’s to the next 10 years of burgers, cheese curds, and all the local love.If you haven’t been yet, trust me, this one’s worth the visit.

Celebrating 25 Years of Creativity at the Beloit Art Center

Downtown Beloit has a lot of great spots, but one place that stands out to me is the Beloit Art Center. If you’ve never been or it’s been a while, now is the perfect time to visit, because the center is celebrating 25 incredible years of bringing creativity to our community. When you step inside the Beloit Art Center, you instantly feel the passion and energy of local art. Every single month, the gallery changes. One month, you might see a professional artist from the region, and the next, you’ll see work from emerging creators, high school students, or community members sharing their talents. It keeps things fresh and exciting. You never know what you’ll discover. I love that about this place. It's always evolving. This isn’t just a gallery either. The Beloit Art Center offers classes for adults and kids, giving everyone the chance to dive into their creativity. Whether you're into painting, photography, ceramics, or just want to try something new, there are so many ways to get involved. The building itself has a cool story. It was built in 1912 and originally used by the Bell Telephone Company. Over the years, it’s been everything from a restaurant to an antique store to a meeting place for the Elks Club. Since 1999, it’s been the home of the Beloit Art Center, first as the Beloit Fine Arts Incubator, and since 2017 under its current name. In 2020, the center took ownership of the building, planting its roots even deeper in the community. Now let’s talk about the big celebration. On July 19th, the Beloit Art Center is throwing a huge outdoor anniversary event to celebrate 25 years of art, culture, and community. It’s happening in the parking lot behind the building, and they’ve packed the evening with some awesome stuff.Starting at 5:00 PM, you can catch live music from Nick and Friends to kick off the night. Then at 6:30 PM, they’ll have speeches and unveil a brand-new mural, which I’m super excited to see. And the party keeps going with Mr. Pink playing from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. There will be food trucks too, so come hungry. One of the highlights of the night will be the special indoor exhibit, “25 Years of Art at BAC,” showcasing work from artists who have been part of the gallery over the years. It’s a chance to really take in how much this center has meant to artists and visitors alike. The Beloit Art Center is one of those places that makes our city feel special. It gives artists a place to shine and gives all of us a place to connect through creativity. I’m proud to have it right here in our downtown, and I hope to see you at the anniversary celebration.Let’s keep supporting local art and the spaces that make it possible.
