When I met Christy, the owner of Buckets & Blooms in Rockton, Illinois, it was a real treat. She's a new business owner in the community, and her store is all about flowers, plants, and learning how to make your green friends thrive.

What's cool about Buckets & Blooms is that they don't just have ordinary plants. You can find special ones like Swiss Cheese Monstera, African Elephant Ear, and even a plant that looks like dolphins are swimming! It's like having a piece of the jungle in your home.

Christy's husband, Jake, also plays a big part in the store. He makes custom 3D-printed vases and pots, and they come in lots of different colors. It's like an art show for plant lovers.

For those who like to get their hands dirty, Buckets & Blooms offers classes every week. You can learn to make your own soap, candles, and bouquets. It's a fun way to get creative and try something new.

With the holidays coming up, Buckets & Blooms is the perfect place to find special gifts. Whether it's a pretty bouquet, a unique plant, or a nice-smelling candle, you'll find something great for your friends and family.

Supporting local businesses like Buckets & Blooms is not just good for our town, but it's also a way to discover cool places right around the corner. So, go check out Buckets & Blooms, meet Christy and her husband, and get ready for a wonderful experience. It's a fresh and exciting addition to our Stateline community, and I'm sure you'll love it as much as I did.

Taco Tuesday at Tacos El Gordo!

Taco Tuesday at Tacos El Gordo!

I had the most fantastic lunch at Tacos El Gordo in Beloit, right by AutoZone on 4th St. Let me tell you about the trio of tacos that rocked my taste buds – steak, chicken, and chorizo. These were hands down some of the best tacos I've had in a long while. The flavors were out of this world. What stood out to me was the attention to detail in the preparation – the soft taco shells had this perfect crunch from being toasted just right. Each bite was a flavor explosion, but if I had to pick a favorite, the steak taco stole the show. The tenderness and rich flavor were next level. If you're looking for a delightful Taco Tuesday experience, I highly recommend giving Tacos El Gordo a try. Your taste buds will thank you!Follow them on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tacos-El-Gordo/1957124094298756

Do you like or hate Day Light Saving?

Do you like or hate Day Light Saving?

I woke up this morning and saw that my phone had jumped ahead an hour, and I was so confused. I had no idea that daylight saving time was happening today, and I felt annoyed that I didn't know. It's frustrating to have to adjust to a new time and feel like I'm losing an hour of my day.I'm really conflicted about daylight saving time. On one hand, it's nice to have more daylight in the evenings during the summer months, but on the other hand, I hate losing an hour of sleep in the spring. It always takes me a while to adjust, and I feel so tired and out of it. I'm curious to know what other people think about daylight saving time - do you like it or hate it?

Celebrating Black History Month 2023, Black Athletes

Celebrating Black History Month 2023, Black Athletes

African American athletes have been a driving force in American sports history, overcoming adversity and discrimination to make groundbreaking achievements in their respective fields. During Black History Month, it is important to recognize the contributions of these athletes to American culture and society. One such athlete is Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier in baseball when he joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Robinson faced intense racism and discrimination, but he persevered and became one of the greatest baseball players of all time. He paved the way for future generations of Black athletes to succeed in sports.Another notable African American athlete is Muhammad Ali, a boxing legend who was known for his incredible skill and outspoken personality. Ali was not only a champion in the ring, but also a social activist who fought for civil rights and spoke out against racism and injustice. His impact on sports and society continues to be felt to this day.In track and field, Jesse Owens was a trailblazer who made history at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Owens, who was Black, won four gold medals and broke multiple world records, defying the racist ideology of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime. He became an icon of sports and a symbol of Black excellence and resilience. In basketball, Michael Jordan is widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes of all time. Jordan, who grew up in North Carolina, won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls and became a global superstar. He inspired a generation of young athletes, both Black and white, to strive for excellence and push beyond their limits. Finally, Serena Williams is a dominant force in the world of tennis, having won numerous Grand Slam titles and Olympic medals throughout her career. Williams has also been an advocate for gender and racial equality, using her platform to speak out against discrimination and fight for social justice. In conclusion, African American athletes have made significant contributions to American sports history and culture. These athletes have overcome enormous obstacles to achieve greatness, and their achievements serve as a reminder of the power of perseverance, resilience, and excellence. During Black History Month, we should celebrate and honor these athletes for their courage, skill, and dedication to their craft.

Why is the Month of February Black History Month?

Why is the Month of February Black History Month?

February was chosen to be the month for Black History Month for several reasons. One of the primary reasons is that it coincides with the birthdays of two significant figures in black history: Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. Douglass, a former slave who became a prominent abolitionist and civil rights leader, was born on February 14, 1818. Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States who issued the Emancipation Proclamation to free slaves, was born on February 12, 1809. Their birthdays are celebrated as National Freedom Day and Presidents' Day, respectively, which provides a meaningful backdrop for Black History Month.Another reason why February was chosen for Black History Month is that it was established during a time of significant civil rights activism in the United States. In 1965, the Civil Rights Movement was in full swing, and there was a growing demand for greater recognition of black history and culture. The first Black History Month was celebrated in February 1970, and it was officially recognized by the federal government in 1976. Since then, February has become a time to honor and celebrate the achievements and contributions of black Americans throughout history.
